RESEARCH THEMES

In motivation to a new synthetic capability and rational molecular design, our research focuses on the design and synthesis of new Polymeric and Hybrid Materials. Our research targeted towards fundamental understanding in Chemistry and Polymer Science to improve the separation performance and stability of a rational design Membrane materials.

MEMBRANES

A Membrane may be used to separate mixtures of gases into their components. For practical application, a membrane material needs to be both highly selective and highly permeable.

Materials Design

Expanding polymer chemistry for separations:

  • We aim to prepare new polymeric membrane by using different polymerization techniques. We analyze structure-property effects related to gas permeability and selectivity on polymeric membranes.

Precise design of hybrid materials (polymer-filler interface):

  • The incorporation of different synthesised inorganic filler (MOFs) materials in organic polymeric membranes to improve the compatibility issues for hybrid materials such as mixed-matrix membranes (MMM).

Application Targets

Energy efficiency:

  • Polymeric membranes or MMMs based gas separations could be an alternative energy-efficient process for a large amount of gas (CO2/CH4, O2/N2) separations.

  • The proton conductivity and fuel cell performance of polymer electrolyte membranes could be increase by incorporation of sulfonated moiety into the membrane.
